Book Review: The story of Dr. Dolittle.

Title: The Story of Dr. Dolittle
Author: Hugh Lofting
Publication: Suhas Publishing House
Pages: 199

"Our perfect companions never

 have fewer than four feet"

I gradually gained interest when I started to read the introductory part of the story. This story revolves around a character who is professionally a Veterinarian and his journey to the South Africa  with his fellow pets. The story is  full of adventures and suspense, that it can captivate even the attention even of elders. The story is reckoned by many as the last Quality work of Lofting.

In the book the story starts within a town Puddleby. In the beginning, the character is a human doctor. Later on he develops interest towards animals and thus continues his profession as a Veterinarian. He has a pet(parrot) Polynesia who taught him animal language. Later on in the story he becomes known to everyone as a Vet who could cure any disease amongst the animals. The later life of profession past peacefully, when the turning point of the story arrives.

A swallow from South Africa comes with a concern of growing death cases amongst the monkeys of South Africa. Then the story starts revealing itself in an adventurous manner (which you could discover while reading the book). The King, the Prince, the Pirates , the world’s best Sailor and the Animals in the African forest are narrated eloquently by the author in the story . The book overall takes us to the Jungle Safari sitting from your home to Africa. While reading the story, you might find yourself in a different world. On reading the book you may gradually gain interest whether the doctor will be successful in saving the lives of monkeys or not. In the book you may encounter various flora and fauna which you have never came across (eg. Pushmi Pullyu).

One must read this book if he/she is interested in fascinating creatures and is interested in venturesome journey.

What I learnt from this story: I came across various Animals and their traits throughout the story. The story also taught me not to leave hopes in the darkest times of life. There is bonding between humans and animals that can be clearly spotted in the story. Like Humans, animals also have emotions. And the existence of a human in the real life like Dr. Dolittle is required to wash away the tribulations of animals.

(If you are not interested in reading the book, there is also an animated movie based on the theme of this book which is worth watching. By ROBERT DOWNEY, Jr.)
